National Museum of Qatar

National Museum of Qatar

Designed to look like a desert rose, this museum tells the story of Qatar from its geological formation to the present day. The National Museum of Qatar, designed by architect Jean Nouvel, is inspired by the desert rose, a naturally occurring phenomenon where clusters of mineral crystals form in the shape of a rose in arid, sandy regions.

The museum is organized in three chapters: Beginnings (the geological formation of the Qatar peninsula), Life in Qatar (the history of human habitation), and The Modern History of Qatar (the discovery of oil and the country's rapid modernization).

Interactive displays, artifacts, oral histories, and commissioned artworks bring Qatar's past, present, and future to life for visitors.
